Boston

New England has been on my travel wish-list for sometime. For my birthday this year Amanda got us tickets to Boston, and just like that we were off!

After a quick call with the kids and a little early morning de-icing we are airborne!

After arriving we headed right to pickup our rental car, and cruised over to Quincy Market for some lunch. After wandering for a little while we ended up taking the freedom trail down the street and ended up at the Union Oyster House, this is the oldest operating restaurant in the USA. Tons of history in this little restaurant, and great food! There also is a special Sam Adams beer brewed just for the Union Oyster House (it’s delicious).

Next it was off to see the harbor and make our way back to the freedom trail to checkout some of the amazing history Boston has. Our walk ended at Boston Common just as the sun was going down.

We were tipped off by one of Amanda’s friends to check out an amazing little Italian restaurant Limoncello, if you end up in Boston don’t miss this place. After dinner we grabbed the car, and then it was off to the Hotel.

We were both exhausted so we ended up crashing once we got into the room. Big day tomorrow,

After 9 or so hours of sleep we sprung up and headed to Back Bay. After a brisk walk around Newbury Street, we got some hot chocolate and chocolate cake at some cool chocolate shop. After some more window shopping, we worked up an appetite…

We decided that it would only be appropriate to eat lunch at Cheers.

With full bellies we checked out Fenway Park, and then headed to Cambridge to see what MIT and Harvard is all about. The USS Constitution was something I was really excited to see, and I think we spent more time here than either of us expected. The ship is free to tour, and the museum is really enjoyable.

Dinner’s up next, we cruised over to the closest Regina’s Pizza only to see the line was down the street. We were way to hungry for that, so we popped in the next closest one nearby and got our Regina’s. YUM.

It was late, and laying in bed was a welcoming thought. We had high hopes of watching The Departed. Travel Tip: Do yourself a favor and buy a Roku stick and keep it in your travel bag. Having one with you when you travel makes arriving in your hotel room a much more enjoyable experience than flipping through channels you don’t know. You know you end up watching some random movie that is on TBS. We connected to my Plex server and a few moments later the movie was playing. We ended up falling asleep about an hour in… oh well!

After packing up (we packed light with just 2 backpacks). We had our sights on the Paul Revere House, back to the Freedom Trail! After the self guided tour we stopped by Mikes Pastry’s (a recommendation from someone at work). We obviously ended up getting 4 bakery goods and both were ready to go into a sugar coma after about half of the first brownie. We had knocked out all the items on our “must see list” and that left us with the task of finding sea shells for the girls (special request). That left us with 2 options, a drive to Cape Cod or Salem. Salem won, because witches and Hocus Pocus!

We drove around Salem looking for any signs of witch hunts, and Hocus Pocus filming locations. We did find some filming locations! This lead us to the beach and on the sea shell hunt, I truthfully didn’t expect to shells randomly at the beach, when we arrived I was totally shocked how many shells were on the little area of beach we were at. This also marked us touching the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in the same year. Will full pockets we headed to the car (not our broomsticks).

Next stop the Salem Witch Museum.

The Salem Witch Museum was a fun stop, and was extremely educational. The tour covered all the history from the witch trials that happened in Salem in 1692 to present day witches.

We headed back to Boston just in time to catch the sunset across the bay. quick stop to drop off the car and jump through TSA. We grabbed some Walburgers for dinner, and called the kids before jumping on the plane home!
